John was raised in a Christian Mennonite home on a Canadian farm by his
mom Violet Nickel (now deceased) and his dad John Nickel (who is
now 89) along
with 6 sisters and two brothers. He was born in Kerrobert Saskatchewan
and raised in Owen Sound Ontario and Kelowna British Columbia. As a
young man he was involved in Youth Ministry ever since he graduated
from high school. He taught Sunday school , sang in the youth choir as
well as the main choir at Evangel his home church, he served as youth
leader in the church for 5 years and then was selected along with 40
other youth leaders from across Canada to go on a ministry development
trip to Israel where he stayed six months and had his first exposure to
cross cultural ministry and where God sowed into his heart the ministry
that he is involved in today. When he arrived back in Canada, he was
invited to share on 100 Huntley Street a National Christian TV talk show
in Toronto. Upon returning to his home town he was called upon to
establish the college and career youth group. Later at 25 years old he
married his beautiful wife Angela who also had a call of God on her life
to serve on the missions field. As a couple they became involved in a
street ministry at the Light House then became the founding members of
the steering committee for the newly created Bible school and missions
board. From which they were sent out as partially supported independent
missionaries with an apostolic mantle to establish independent
ministries in Mexico.
In the
secular realm, John was raised and trained on the farm, where he was
always told that their was no job
impossible for him to do. His German dad never let him say "I don't know!"
Building into him an attitude that nothing was impossible and the need
to search out the wisdom of God to make the impossible possible. After graduation from High School God opened the door for him to work in
a computer firm called Datatech Systems Ltd. Where he worked for 15
years and became Manager for
Western Canada of computer installations and client relationships. He has since been establishing churches in Mexico
and now has expanded into starting self supporting ministries, that are
not dependent on mercy giving but on starting small businesses that are
an integral part of that ministry and thus fulfilling the vision
that Jesus had for His church and true religion.
John also
desires to be the best Grand dad possible and is trying to understand
the delicate balance of being a good Father-in-law and building
influence with his grand children to be able to help their parents mold
them into great men and women of Faith.
God has sown into John's heart the concept of the Father's table and how
to relate to grown spiritual children that God wants to and is thrusting
forth into apostolic ministries.
Pray for him as he
works through these dynamics, helping others achieve greatness, thru business
ministry ventures where others can be discipled.
